Late Night Thought: Coolest Compliment

Earlier tonight the wonderful boyfriend and I were doing the usual: sitting in the car in the driveway for hours on end. We were talking about anything that happened to come to mind: kind of uncensored, freedom to say anything (the best way to discuss.) So there we were, talking about people that frustrated us, the kind of people we thought we were, this and that. Chris is a quiet and reserved person, not exactly the definition of outgoing, which is completely fine with me. Most of the time he tends to be turned off by the loud, over-the-top types.

But then he said the most simple, honest and amazing thing I've heard to date:

"I don't like loud people, but I love you. It's crazy."

I tilted my head for a moment, trying to decipher if it was a compliment or not. Then a huge grin spread across my face. Yes, I can be obscenely obnoxious. Yes, I may drive the general public insane. But here was my reserved boyfriend basically telling me that he loves the fact that I'm in your face, honest, and a sometimes way too open book. I felt pure joy.

There I was, being commended for something that could be a bad thing to anyone else. But he appreciates the fact that I'm different from him and have incredibly different ways of expressing myself (and much more openly than most.) It's little things like that that make me feel like things are right the way they need to be.

my fiancee told my daughter once- (pertaining to a wart on her wrist that shes too chickenshit to let me have removed)- that love happened when you take a bunch of flaws that you normally hate and roll them up into one person who makes them all endearing.

yay for your boyfriend for loving your loudness.

Thanks for sharing such an amazing moment! It has to be tempting to keep something like this to yourself, and all of us here in the blogosphere appreciate that you decided to share it instead. :)

Don't you just love when moments like that happen? It's the little things like that make you stop and realize just how much you enjoy life.

aww, he sounds like he loves you so much. Its wonderful when things like this happens it reminds us that even when we may dislike something about ourselves, its those things we hate that bring people closer to us. Great post!
